I've never used Novus #3, but I have much experience and success using #2 and/or a petroleum-based spray furniture polish. I've restored a couple dozen otherwise bad discs, most of the time only with the furniture polish. I save the Novus for emergencies. When using Novus #2 (abrasive), or any time you clean a disc, NEVER use circular or "horizontal" motion. The worst position for a scratch on a laser disc is orbital with respect to the center hole. (ie: put a compass in the center, and scratch a circle in the surface) Whenever you clean a disc, work from the center to the edge in a straight line. "Vertically" positioned scratches are virtually ignored by disc players. After using Novus #2, the surface can show abrasion. With repeated application, a petroleum-based spray furniture polish will safely* melt the surface and correct this. Spray it on, let it dry somewhat, and buff it off (vertically). *I can't guarantee there's not a polish out there somewhere that will harm discs. Also, I mean polish, not stain! Use the cheap household stuff. This is corrective, not preventative. Good discs shouldn't receive a regular polishing, even though I've never seen harm done. Dave
